Mai's October 23rd

This will undoubtedly be the last time I play at Mai's, whether it be with Franklin for Short or the Undertow. Unfortunately Mai has to close up her doors because the hospital is going to tear the place down to make a special ambulance driveway. Good for sick people, bad for people trying to get down. I intend to help them with the demolition, starting with blowing the doors down. No, but seriously this show will be special. Thanks to John K for the inspiration on the flier.

Indian Summer with Tall Tales
Park chilling #1 Ann Arbor, MI. It was kind of mystical and swampy, so we called a Bog.

Attempting to get gas at the Canadian Border. Detroit to Windsor. The pump started asking me for my license plate number and zip code. It was a rental car!

Leslie's garage/jam spot. Her house is full of little loves.

The Music Gallery in Toronto Canada. One of the best shows I have ever been involved with. And thats just how Simone Rubi rolls. All the time.

Simone Rubi. Magic.

Simone and Leslie. Babes.

Coffee cup in Toronto.

We crossed the border at Niagra Falls. They wanted $20 to park the car and go see the waterfall. I just jumped out and snapped a couple for free.

Tania and Corinn. Sleeping Beauties.

The barter system in effect. Jamestown, NY. Orbs were all over this trip!

The lovely Anna Ash as Lucille Ball. Jamestown, NY.

Rise and Shine Tall Tales.

Amish Laundry Service. Amish Country, NY.

Bug City aka Phoenixville, PA. Lauren and Pats love pad.

Mystic septic swamp where the frogs are lime green and paralyzed.

Electric Cat. West Philly, PA.

Tall Tales live at the Green Line. Philadelphia, PA.

Verrazano Bridge. NY.

Summer K. Hostess with the Mostess. Total Fox too! Brooklyn, NY.

Seth and Corinn. Drinking buddies for life! Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

Times Squares. Where they filmed a couple of movies.

Tall Tales, flip-floppin' NYC. Muck Muck.

Where the money is made. Where someone makes money. NYC.

Some french statue. NYC.

Best pizza was at Artichoke. Manhattan. We ate lots of pizza, but none came close to this one.

Lovebirds. Washington Sq. NYC.

Bone Friends n Harmony. James and Okuma. Petes Candy Store, Brooklyn. Great show.

Port Jefferson Ferry across the Long Island Sound. Thanks Aunt Jeanne!

The breathing billboard. New London, CT.

New London sunset. Sipping Jameson in the rental.

Best clam chowda I eva had, guy! Mystic, CT.

Park Chillin' #4. Providence, RI.

Boston Graveyards are the real deal. Basten, MA.

I accidentally carried this knife all the way from home for the whole trip. Thats through LAX security and across the Canadian border twice. I guess they were too busy searching for shampoo bottles that were too big.

Thanks Tall Tales. I love you forever brother! You did it! We did it!

So Fully

SO FULLY is my new record. So new it technically doesn't even exist yet. Over the course of the last couple months, I have spent every Monday night at Somis Sounds Studios recording this batch of songs with Eric Richards. Basically we'd show up at 9pm, I would lay down an acoustic guitar track, then drums and percussion, then vocals, then Eric play the bass track, and finally we'd add the bells and whistles and head home around 3am. One song a night, sometimes two songs a night. The result is one of the best recording experiences I've ever had. Most of the tracks are first or second takes, which was nice to capture the energy and pure emotion of each instrument. A lot of heavy stuff has been going on in my life lately, so it was nice to cultivate most of it and turn it into art. I uploaded the whole record to my myspace. You can listen to it here: Seth Pettersen
Still needs to be mastered and pressed. I will make 30 special limited CDRs for the East Coast tour. See you in the clouds.

Rory's Camera
I have borrowed Rory's camera. SO fun to shoot film for a change. Heres some pics from the last roll. Just having fun experimenting. Kirby took the one of me in the hammock.
Peace on Earth forever.

Kirby took this one. She was house sitting up in Ojai and the quiet relaxing energy was always present. Except during our dance parties.

Trevor has been playing drums on the new Undertow record which we are recording at Yellow Magic Studios. We were mixing a song when I snapped this. He's listening very carefully and I am taking photos.

Franklin for Short is back in the studio with Jon DeBaun. We're working on a new full length to follow up SWELL. My main contribution so far has been bringing the beer, which no one has been taking advantage of more than me.

Pictures are way cooler than what I would be able to write. I would however like to say thank you to the following people: Trevor Beld for driving the WHOLE time and doing all the dirty work. Tania Beld, Dale Dreiling and Corinn McKnett for putting up with me all those times I had to go pee or would yell. John Healy for upgrading his whole life and showing up how to move on correctly. Michael Leahy for ruling Davis super hard. Matt Roar for ruling San Fran super hard. Connor sisters for being a sight for sore eyes. Kirby Slavin for ruling the whole world super hard. Landon Sea for being dude #1. Chris Larsen and co for ruling the acoustic sound super hard. On with the show. oh yeah, Randall Sena rules super hard too. MOST THANKS GO TO PAUL WILLIAMS FOR SAVING MY LIFE!!!

Singin Cricket

Trevor Beld has now entered the digital age, officially, by becoming the proud owner of a computer. He is running some sort of MAC, which of course is equipped with Garage Band. He and I have been noodling around and recording some of my "solo" work. I recently posted a song called Singin' Cricket which was a song that Franklin for Short played around with about a year ago but it never came to fruition. Its basically another one of my songs which is about how the world around us is falling apart and we should be kind/rewind. You can listen to the handy work here. Thanks Beldy.

Good Tymes
I don't know much about surfboards, why I like what I like. I just know I like to have fun, and at this point in time I have narrowed down the boards that I consistently ride to these four. On any given day, I can chose from one of these and have a good time.
Top: A wonderfully heavy log shaped by the lovely Ashley Lloyd. I told her I wanted a heavy board, for cruising. Made out of a biofoam blank, this tanker is set for speed coming in at 10'3" length and a little under 4" thick in the middle. I took it to Dennis Ryder to have glassed with 8oz volan. A few people have gotten mad at me while I was riding this board, and rightfully so. Its tons of fun, but you have to be careful to spread the wealth of waves cause this thing connects the smallest junk all the way to the shore. Best day on this board: Inside the Cove at C-Street, shoulder high and lining up just right, lots of long cradle rides.
Second From Top: 9'6" Scott Anderson "Traditionalist". I bought this board used off of Craigs List a few years ago, from Kurt who plays drums for Big Bad Voodoo Daddy. Kurt is an awesome guy and great surfer too. Once I started riding this one, it was all I rode for a solid year. So much fun, this board can do it all. Its lost some of its life now, and doesnt move the way it used to, but still puts a smile on my face. Took this board to mainland mexico to surf La Ticla rivermouth.
Second from Bottom: Once upon a time I had a fish that I rarely rode because usually the conditions weren't right for me, and I never really put in the dedication to getting the thing wired. Since I am mostly longboarding, I wanted something for those head high, overhead days. And something for the beach breaks too. This is a 7'8" single fin rounded pin tail thing shaped by mr Derek Dodds. Theres almost no rocker so it can get some speed down the line. This thing has worked really good for me at decent days at Pitas, Pipe, Solimar and Rincon.
Bottom: 7'2" Liddle Displacement Hull. I don't know much about this board. I just got it and Ive only ridden it 3 times. My good buddy Landon Smith rides his Liddle all the time, swears by it. Last winter I surfed with him at Little Rincon and witnessed some of the most radical surfing I have seen in person. The speed that he drew on this thing seemed to be unparralled with anything else. He would get super low and just cling to the pocket. He called me up a few days ago to tell me that a used Liddle was for sale. By the second wave I caught on this thing I could see that I am in for a journey of speed. He said not to get discouraged by its unfamiliar ways, that it would pay off in the end.
